Astoundingly after many years of designing light, we were asked to hold a TEDx talk on the subject of stage design. Not only that but we were asked to design the stage at the event as well. It was a lot of fun coming up with the concept for everything and integrating it into the show.
With awesome help from the entire TEDxDornbirn team, we were able to create something that captured the imaginations of the entire audience and hopefully offered some insight into the design process that can seem so mysterious to most people.
Having spent many years as a musician, I decided to end my speech with a musical performance and combine my love of finger drumming (which I often use to control lights) and light itself. I hope that no one notices just how damn nervous I was on stage because, trust me, I was sweating buckets minutes before getting up there.
